Apart from the legend of its origin story (widely accepted to be inspired by the contorted remains of a Cartier Baignoire Allongé involved in a tragic car crash), the signature case shape of the Cartier Crash recalls Salvador Dali’s depictions of melting clocks in “The Persistence of Memory”. Limited to only 50 pieces, this version of the Cartier Crash is characterized by the ripple motif which is found in the treatment of the dial and case, emphasizing the distorted yet fascinating geometry of the watch.
